Conserve Cocktails?  Extra Virgin Olive Oil Cocktail?   What the what?

Yep, folks, with a little imagination and booze, you can make some extra special cocktails with some of our products.

Really, these are great all year round, especially the Boulevardier.  But they all make anytime a little more refreshing and interesting.

Let us know what you think in the comments!  We always love to hear what people think.

Fico-Rita

A refreshing new take on a margarita.

Instructions

  • Pour the lemon salt into a small dish. Wet the rim of your glass and dip in the salt. Add ice to your glass.
  • Add tequila, lime juice, and fig conserve to a blender. Blend and then pour into your iced glass.
  • You can use a shaker full of ice instead of a blender, but you will be left with some fig pulp at the bottom of your glass.

So Nikki and Logan came up with this one. When I read the recipe and saw the pics, I   thought, “Hmmm, sounds good.”  OK.  I was wrong.  It’s GREAT.  Maybe it’s the tequila talking, but I really love this cocktail.  Just be careful, it’s goes down REALLY easy.  Luckily, I was just taste testing, so I was able to resist having 2, or 3, or maybe even 4 of these bad boys!

Blood Orange Boulevardier

A delicious twist on a Boulevardier

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a glass full of ice.
  • Stir well.
  • Garnish with orange slice.

The Boulevardier was one of Paul’s go-to drinks, and for good reason.  Some have described is as Negroni’s long-lost cousin but richer and more intriguing.  The blood orange here provides just enough pick-me-up to brighten things up for a refreshing alternative.  You can also thank Nikki and Logan for this recipe.

Villa Cappelli Extra Virgin Olive Oil Martini

It might sound strange, but the Villa Cappelli Extra Virgin Olive Oil just adds a richness to the drink.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • To make simple syrup:  Take equal parts sugar and water, bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar, about 3 minutes. Remove, cool and refrigerate in a tightly sealed jar. It will keep for about 3 months. This is a totally optional addition. Most of the time the grapefruit juice is plenty.
  • Drop 3 medium torn basil leaves into a cocktail shaker, fill will ice. Add 1.5 ounces of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, 1.5 ounces vodka, .5 ounce of Villa Cappelli EVOO, and .25 ounce simple syrup. Shake VIGOROUSLY for at LEAST 10 seconds if not 30.
  • If you are making a bigger batch, remember the ratio: equal parts vodka to grapefruit juice, then half that in EVOO, then a quarter simple syrup.
  • Strain into your glass and garnish with a small basil leaf.

I know.  I know.  This one sounds weird.  But trust us on this.  The extra virgin olive oil gives the drink just a slight “bite” while acting sort of like a creamy agent, making the drink smooth and silky.   You also need to be a little careful with this one, as it goes down real easy.  Also, if you do sip it over an extended time, the oil will separate out a bit.  It’s still delicious and just a drinkable, but just thought you should know.

This is also a fun one to make and serve and have guests try and guess the secret ingredient.  No one ever knows it’s extra virgin olive oil.

I hope you are able to try all of these at some point.  I know they will become a staple at the bar at Villa Cappelli (aptly named The Crucifixion Bar by our friend John).   And I’d love to share one or two of these with each of you when you visit.  Until then, here’s a virtual toast to all our health and happiness. Cin! Cin!

You might think growing up in a small town in Texas wouldn't prepare you to live the Italian lifestyle. But in many ways — the family values, the small town culture, the love of food — is very similar to what you'll find in Italian culture. In fact, I expect it's pretty universal. Having been married to an Italian for 20 years, it's been fun to learn and explore the rich Italian culture and share it with you.
